Engaged: Should you have photos taken?
So you’ve decided to tie the knot with your special one. You know for sure you’re hiring a wedding photographer, but what about having professional engagement photos taken? Well, let’s talk about that.
Here’s 3 reasons why you should have engagement photos taken:
Save The Dates
You’re in the early stages of planning for the big day. You have the wedding day set and venue picked out, now it’s time to send those invitations out. Having nice, professional photos as a couple on your invites and wedding website just looks really good. Yeah, those semi-blurry cellphone shots that your friend took one weekend might work too, but really, they just aren’t the same. Some wedding photographers actually include the engagement session as part of their wedding package, like me, so it’s definitely worth researching and checking out that route. (Oh, and they’ll be a hit on Instagram and Facebook when you post to make the big announcement!)
Cherish this time
Kind of like a first date or first kiss; they’re things about a relationship that you fondly remember. The engagement period of a relationship is a special one because it’s a transitional time between dating and marriage that’s full of love, happiness and excitement. Having quality photographs from this time in your life will be like a nostalgic time capsule. When you look back on your pictures years down the road, they’ll transport you back to a time and place that evoke all those giddy emotions like butterflies in your tummy. You only get engaged to your special person once, so you might as well cherish & capture it while you can!
They show ya’ll for who ya’ll are
You’ll have plenty of pictures with dresses and tuxes when the wedding day rolls around. These sessions are meant to be relaxed & non-formal to really show the love you and your partner have for one another. I very much enjoy doing these photoshoots because the couples can genuinely relax and have fun with one another. There’s no kids running around screaming, there isn’t family to distract, and the stresses aren’t there like that of wedding day photography. I’m easily able to capture a lot of the truly funny & candid moments in these sessions which the couples end of loving when they see them (one of my favs is a plucking of a nose hair.) These engagement pictures are the photos you’ll hang on your walls, pass down to your kids in an album, and all your friends & family will have stuck to their refrigerators with magnets for years to come.
Included images of Megan & Dylan are from an engagement session I photographed earlier this year.
